DCPS seeks authority to create charter schools
D.C. Public Schools is pursuing the authority to create charter schools, the schools chancellor said Thursday. "The reason I would pursue my chartering authority is two-fold," Chancellor Kaya Henderson said. "One is I think that for a number of our schools that are doing very well, what we know is autonomy allows for innovation, and allows for people to be successful."

D.C. to begin assessment tests for kindergartners
The District is planning to begin testing its kindergarten students, labeling them "below basic" through "advanced" within the first six weeks of the start of school, in an effort to provide more tailored instruction to young learners in their very first days of school.
